The purpose of the Ranch Woman of the Year award is to honor those women who have worked so hard and contributed to the success of the ranching industry and have shown special abilities as a wife, mother, and helpmate as well as her participation in the community.  Any GRVC member can nominate any woman in the upper Green River Valley and Hoback Basin who is in or has been in the ranching business.

Sharlene asked Jonita Sommers to help her find which ranches in the Green River Valley were eligible for the centennial ranch award. The Cowbelles decided to give each ranch a plaque and then send their forms on to the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office. There are now 30
